Depending on where the wire rope is used, the wire rope must meet different requirements. The main uses are:

The running rope (twist rope) is bent on the pulley and drum. Therefore, stress is mainly applied by bending, and secondly, stress is applied by stretching.

The fixed rope and the draw rope must bear the tensile force, so they mainly bear the static and fluctuating tensile stress. The rope used for suspension is usually called a cable.

Track ropes In aerial ropeways and cable cranes, the track ropes must act as tracks for car rollers or other loads. Compared with running ropes, track ropes do not have the curvature of rollers. Under the action of the roller force, the wire rope produces a so-called free bending radius. The radius increases with the tensile force (decreases the bending stress) and decreases with the roller force.

Wire rope slings are used to lift various goods.
